Google Maps & Local Pack SEO

Get found on Maps.
Win the local pack.

Three listings appear above the organic results, and they absorb the overwhelming majority of local intent. We engineer your Business Profile, proximity signals, review velocity and location content so you hold one of those three places in every area you serve.

The local pack problem

Three slots decide the market, and proximity alone will not get you into them

For any query with local intent, Google shows a map and three business listings before a single organic result. Those three capture the calls, the direction requests and the walk-ins. The ranking model behind them — relevance, distance and prominence — is only partly about how close you are, which is exactly why businesses further from the searcher routinely outrank nearer ones.

An under-built Business Profile

Missing categories, thin service lists, no products, unanswered Q&A and stale photos all suppress relevance scoring. The profile is a ranking surface in its own right, not a directory entry you fill in once and forget.

Review volume without velocity

A static pile of old five-star reviews reads as dormant. The model responds to recency, cadence, keyword content and whether you reply — a steady monthly flow beats a large historic total.

Inconsistent NAP across the web

Conflicting names, addresses and phone numbers across directories and aggregators dilute entity confidence. When Google cannot resolve which record is authoritative, it discounts all of them.

No location-level content

One generic services page cannot compete for a dozen service areas. Without genuinely differentiated location pages carrying real local proof, you have nothing to rank in the areas you are not physically in.

What Maps SEO covers

Organic SEO ranks a page. Maps SEO ranks a business entity.

Google Maps SEO — local pack or Business Profile optimisation — is the work of making Google confident about three things: what your business does, where it legitimately serves, and whether real people vouch for it.

The mechanics are different from organic SEO because the ranked object is different. You are not optimising a URL; you are strengthening an entity in Google’s local index, then giving it enough corroboration across the web and enough on-site local content to be trusted for each area you claim.

  • Business Profile engineering — primary and secondary categories chosen from competitive analysis, complete service and product catalogues, attributes, hours, geotagged imagery and an actively managed Q&A section.
  • Local keyword architecture — service-plus-area mapping across every location you serve, with intent segmented into emergency, comparison and research so each gets the page format it needs.
  • Review acquisition systems — compliant, automated request flows that generate steady monthly velocity with natural service-keyword language, plus structured response handling for every review.
  • Citation & NAP cleanup — audit and correction across primary directories, industry verticals and the data aggregators that quietly repopulate bad records after you fix them.
  • Location page builds — genuinely differentiated pages per service area with local proof, embedded maps, service-area schema and internal linking that reinforces geographic relevance.

Why proximity is not destiny: distance is one of three ranking inputs. Prominence and relevance are the ones you can actually build — which is how a well-optimised business two suburbs away outranks the one on the searcher’s street.

03
The Sachkhand blueprint

How we get you into the three-pack

Six workstreams that run in parallel, sequenced so entity confidence is built before we start competing for additional service areas.

01

Grid-based rank audit

We measure your current pack position across a geographic grid rather than from one point, exposing precisely where visibility drops off. That heatmap becomes the plan — it usually contradicts what a single-location rank tracker reports.

02

Profile rebuild

Categories reverse-engineered from the businesses currently winning, complete service and product catalogues, every attribute claimed, geotagged photography on a publishing cadence and Q&A seeded with real buyer questions.

03

Citation & entity cleanup

We fix conflicting records at the aggregator level, not just the visible directories, so corrections stick instead of quietly reverting six weeks later. Then we add the vertical citations that carry weight in your category.

04

Review engine

Compliant request automation timed to the moment of highest satisfaction, producing consistent velocity with natural keyword and location language, plus a response protocol that handles negatives without escalating them.

05

Service-area content

Differentiated location pages with genuine local proof — projects, staff, landmarks, service specifics — supported by service-area schema and an internal link structure that concentrates geographic relevance.

06

Defend & expand

Monthly grid re-scans, spam-listing takedowns against competitors gaming the system, and expansion into the next tier of service areas once the core grid is held.

04
What is changing through 2026

Four shifts in how local intent gets resolved

The local surface is getting richer and more automated at once. Profiles now carry far more ranking weight, and AI-generated local answers are starting to sit above the pack itself.

01

The profile is becoming the landing page

More local journeys now complete inside the Business Profile — messages, bookings, product browsing, direction requests — without ever reaching your website. Profile completeness is shifting from a ranking factor to the conversion surface itself.

02

AI local answers sit above the pack

Generated summaries increasingly answer “best X near me” before the map appears, synthesising review sentiment and profile data. Being well-reviewed and well-structured now feeds a layer that did not exist two years ago.

03

Review content matters more than review count

Systems parse what reviews actually say, matching service language and sentiment to query intent. Twenty reviews describing specific services now outperform two hundred that only say “great service”.

04

Spam enforcement is tightening unevenly

Fake listings and keyword-stuffed business names still distort competitive markets, but enforcement is improving. Systematic reporting has become a legitimate and increasingly effective part of local strategy.

05
Why Sachkhand

Measured on grid coverage, not a single rank check

Local visibility varies street by street. Any agency reporting one local ranking number is measuring the wrong thing, and usually the most flattering thing.

Geo-grid reporting

We report pack position across a grid of points covering your whole service area, so you see genuine coverage and its edges rather than a single convenient reading from your own postcode.

Compliant review velocity

Systems that generate a steady, natural review flow within platform policy. No incentivisation, no gating, nothing that puts the profile at risk of suspension — because a suspended profile costs more than slow growth.

Suspension-safe practice

We keep edits inside guidelines and document every change. Aggressive shortcuts win for a quarter and then lose the listing entirely, which is a trade no established business should accept.

Multi-location at scale

Bulk profile management, per-location content that avoids doorway-page patterns, and consistent entity data across hundreds of records — the failure mode that breaks most franchise and multi-site programmes.

Calls and direction requests

We report the actions that generate revenue — calls, messages, direction requests, bookings — attributed back to profile visibility rather than stopping at impressions.

Competitor spam removal

We systematically document and report fake listings and keyword-stuffed names crowding your market. In contested categories this is often the single fastest ranking gain available.

06
Measurement

One rank number hides everything that matters locally

Local performance is geographic. We measure it geographically, then tie it to the actions that put revenue in the business.

Grid pack coverage

Share of grid points where you appear in the top three, mapped as a heatmap so you can see exactly where visibility ends and why.

Profile interactions

Calls, messages, direction requests, bookings and website taps straight from the profile — the actions that actually precede revenue.

Review velocity & sentiment

New reviews per month, average rating trend, service keywords appearing in review text, and response coverage.

Discovery vs branded split

How much visibility comes from people finding you for a service versus already searching your name — the honest measure of whether local SEO is working.

Cost per local lead

Blended cost per call and booking from organic local, benchmarked against your paid local spend so the comparison is concrete.

The engagement

Four stages, repeated every month

Local rankings move continuously as competitors, reviews and Google’s own model change. The programme is built to keep pace rather than deliver once.

01

Audit

Grid rank scan across your service area, full profile teardown against the businesses currently winning, citation and NAP consistency check at aggregator level, and review-profile analysis. You get a heatmap showing exactly where you are invisible.

→ Coverage heatmap + gap analysis
02

Build

Profile rebuilt to specification, citations corrected at source, review engine deployed, and the first tranche of service-area pages published with local proof and schema. Entity confidence gets established before we widen the geographic claim.

→ Rebuilt profile + corrected citations
03

Amplify

Steady review velocity, regular posts and geotagged photography, Q&A seeded with real buyer questions, and vertical citations added in your category. This is the prominence work that lifts you past nearer competitors.

→ Rising prominence signals
04

Defend & expand

Monthly grid re-scan, competitor spam reporting, and expansion into the next tier of service areas once the core grid holds. Reporting stays on calls and bookings rather than impressions.

→ Monthly grid report + next tier

Questions

The questions we get asked most

Practical answers on how Maps ranking works, what you can influence, and how long it takes.

How does Google decide local pack rankings?+

Three inputs: relevance (how well your business matches the query), distance (proximity to the searcher or the searched area) and prominence (how well-known and well-corroborated you are across the web and in reviews). Distance is fixed, but relevance and prominence are both buildable — which is why a well-optimised business further away regularly outranks a nearer one.

Can I rank in areas where I don’t have an address?+

Yes, though it is harder and requires real substance. Service-area businesses can rank beyond their physical location by combining correct service-area configuration, genuinely differentiated location pages carrying local proof, and prominence signals that establish you as known in that area. What does not work is thin doorway pages with the town name swapped — those get filtered and can trigger a penalty.

How many reviews do I need?+

Velocity and content matter more than a total. A steady flow of a handful of recent reviews each month, describing specific services in natural language, outperforms a large but stale historic pile. Practically, most competitive local markets need a rating above 4.2 to clear buyer filtering, then consistent monthly additions to hold prominence.

Why did my rankings drop after I edited my profile?+

Category changes, name edits and address changes all trigger re-evaluation, and some edits queue for manual review. Short-term volatility after a significant change is normal and usually settles within a few weeks. Persistent drops more often trace to a category chosen incorrectly, a guideline breach, or a competitor gaining ground — which is why we document every edit and grid-scan before and after.

How long does Maps SEO take?+

Faster than organic SEO. Profile and citation corrections often move rankings within two to six weeks. Review velocity and prominence build over three to six months, and expansion into additional service areas typically shows through around months four to eight. Highly contested urban categories sit at the slower end of that range.

Do I need location pages if I have a Business Profile?+

For a single-location business serving one area, the profile carries most of the weight. The moment you claim multiple service areas you need genuinely differentiated pages, because Google looks for on-site evidence that you actually operate in each. They must carry real local content — projects, staff, specifics — not templated text with the place name substituted.

What can be done about competitors with fake listings?+

Quite a lot. Fake addresses, keyword-stuffed business names and listings at virtual offices all breach guidelines and can be reported through the redressal process. We document violations with evidence and submit them systematically. In contested categories, removing spam listings is frequently the single fastest ranking gain available, ahead of any optimisation work.

Is Maps SEO different from Local SEO?+

They overlap heavily and are often used interchangeably. In practice we treat Maps SEO as the profile-and-pack work — entity strength, reviews, citations, grid coverage — while Local SEO also covers ranking your website organically for local queries. Most engagements need both, since the pack and the local organic results are won with different assets.
