SEO for HVAC companies that fills your engineers’ diaries

When the heating fails in January or the AC dies in a heatwave, nobody browses. They search, call the first credible result and book. We make sure that result is you — and that your quiet months are filled with planned installs.

01
The customer journey

Two completely different customers, twelve months apart

HVAC demand is violently seasonal and splits into two journeys. Emergency breakdown converts in minutes and pays premium rates. Planned installation is researched for weeks and carries the real margin. Most firms are built to capture only the first.

1
Breakdown

It has stopped working

No heating in winter or no cooling in a heatwave. Mobile search, immediate intent, calls the first result that looks credible.

“emergency boiler repair”
“ac not cooling repair near me”
2
Verify

Are they qualified?

A fast check of reviews, accreditation and whether they cover the area. Gas Safe and F-Gas registration are hard filters.

“gas safe engineer near me”
“[company] reviews”
3
Plan

Time to replace it

After a second breakdown they start researching replacement — efficiency, running costs, grants and likely price.

“new boiler cost”
“heat pump vs gas boiler”
4
Quote

Comparing installers

They request two or three quotes. Firms with transparent pricing and visible accreditation get onto that shortlist.

“boiler installation quote”
“heat pump grant eligibility”
02
The cost of poor visibility

What being invisible costs an HVAC business

HVAC combines urgent low-value work with planned high-value work. Losing visibility on either is expensive, but losing the install enquiries is what caps a firm’s growth.

Only ranking near your depot

Most HVAC firms appear in the map pack within a couple of miles of their registered address despite covering a far wider area. Every other area is effectively invisible.

Typical firm ranks in 1 of 10+ areas covered

No seasonal preparation

Demand doubles in the first cold snap and the first heatwave. Firms that build visibility in the quiet months capture that spike; firms that start in December have already missed it.

Peak season decided months in advance

Missing installation research

Replacement boilers and heat pumps are researched for weeks. Without cost, efficiency and grant content you never appear during the phase where the decision is made.

Install jobs often worth £3k–£12k each

Accreditations not visible

Gas Safe, F-Gas, OFTEC and MCS registration are what customers check before calling. Buried or missing, they remove you from consideration silently.

Unverifiable accreditation loses the call
03
The searches that matter

The HVAC queries that produce booked work

Emergency queries convert within minutes; installation queries carry the margin. A working strategy targets both, timed against your seasonal demand curve.

Search term Intent Volume Why it matters
“emergency boiler repair near me”Very highHighCalls within minutes, premium rates, minimal price sensitivity.
“air conditioning repair [city]”Very highHighHeatwave-driven spike. Highly seasonal, very high intent.
“new boiler cost”HighVery highInstall research. Pricing content captures them weeks early.
“heat pump installer near me”Very highMediumHigh-value install, growing fast, MCS certification required.
“gas safe engineer near me”Very highMediumAccreditation-led. Easy win if registration is marked up.
“boiler service [area]”Very highMediumRecurring annual revenue and a route into replacement work.
“heat pump grant eligibility”HighMediumScheme research. Answering it captures the install enquiry.
“air con installation cost”HighMediumCommercial and domestic install research with strong intent.

HVAC search is intensely seasonal — heating queries peak with the first cold weather, cooling with the first heatwave. We build visibility ahead of each peak rather than reacting to it.

04
The competitive landscape

Who is taking your calls

HVAC search is crowded with lead platforms and national brands whose model is capturing enquiries in your area and selling them back to you.

Lead generation platforms

Boiler comparison sites, Checkatrade and similar rank above individual firms for nearly every query, then charge you per lead they generate in your own market.

How we beat them: direct local visibility so the customer reaches you before the platform.

National brands and energy suppliers

British Gas, national installers and energy suppliers with large budgets, brand recognition and finance offers on installations.

How we beat them: local responsiveness, transparent pricing and genuinely faster callouts.

Local firms doing it properly

In most areas one or two competitors have built out their profile, reviews and area pages, taking a disproportionate share of local enquiries.

How we beat them: wider grid coverage and stronger seasonal preparation than they sustain.

What we do

The work that fills an HVAC diary

Local visibility for emergency work, install content for margin, and seasonal timing so you are visible before demand arrives rather than during it.

Google Business Profile

Correct service categories, full service lists, real job photography and managed Q&A — the biggest single lever on emergency call volume.

Service area pages

Genuinely differentiated pages for every area you cover, with real local job proof so you rank beyond your depot postcode.

Installation content

Boiler, heat pump and AC cost guides, efficiency comparisons and grant eligibility — the content that captures high-value install research.

Seasonal campaigns

Visibility built ahead of heating and cooling peaks, plus service-plan content that smooths demand through the quiet months.

Accreditation markup

Gas Safe, F-Gas, OFTEC and MCS registration presented in crawlable, verifiable form because customers check before dialling.

Review engine

Automated requests timed to job completion, producing steady velocity with natural service and area language.

Client result

A heating firm that stopped buying comparison leads

The situation

An established heating and AC firm ranked only within a few miles of its yard despite covering fourteen areas. It bought boiler installation leads from a comparison platform at a rising cost, competing against its own leads, and had no content on heat pumps at all.

What we did

We rebuilt the Business Profile, corrected citations at aggregator level, published differentiated area pages with real installation photography, marked up Gas Safe and MCS registration properly, and built cost and grant guides ahead of the heating season.

The heat pump content was the turning point. Nobody local was explaining the grants properly, so those enquiries all came to us — and they are the most profitable jobs we do.

Common questions

Questions HVAC firms ask

Practical answers on coverage, seasonality and winning installation work.

Related services
Can I rank in areas where I don't have premises?+

Yes, and it is usually the biggest opportunity available. Service-area businesses can rank well beyond their base by combining correct service-area configuration, genuinely differentiated area pages with real local job proof, and prominence signals. Thin pages with the town name swapped do not work and can trigger a penalty.

When should we start if our busy season is winter?+

Well before it. Visibility takes weeks to build, so starting in October means missing most of the heating peak. The ideal time to build HVAC visibility is during your quiet months, so you are already ranking when the first cold snap arrives. We plan the calendar backwards from your demand peaks.

Is it worth targeting heat pumps?+

In most markets yes, and it is currently under-served. Heat pump searches are growing quickly, the jobs carry high value, and very few local installers publish clear content about costs, suitability and grant eligibility. If you hold MCS certification, that content is one of the highest-return investments available to you right now.

How do we compete with national brands and energy suppliers?+

Not on brand recognition or finance offers — on local responsiveness and transparency. Nationals are slow to attend and vague about pricing. Local firms that publish clear costs, show real accreditation and demonstrate fast callout times win consistently on local and emergency queries where speed decides the job.

How important are accreditations?+

They function as a hard filter. Customers check Gas Safe, F-Gas, OFTEC or MCS registration before calling an unfamiliar firm, and platforms display them prominently. If yours are buried in a footer or absent, you lose calls you never knew about. Marking them up properly is a small change with disproportionate effect.

How long before the phone rings more?+

Profile and citation fixes usually move map position within four to eight weeks, and because emergency queries carry immediate intent, calls follow quickly. Service area expansion typically shows between months three and six. Installation content takes a full season to mature, since that research happens over weeks.

How do you measure results?+

Calls and form enquiries attributed to organic and map pack, split between emergency and installation enquiries because their values differ enormously, plus cost per enquiry compared against what you currently pay per platform lead. Call tracking lets you judge quality yourself.
