Three different customers, three different searches
Cleaning demand splits into domestic recurring, commercial contract and one-off end-of-tenancy. Each searches differently, converts differently and is worth a different amount. Most cleaning firms optimise for one and miss the other two.
Something prompts it
A new baby, a return to work, a moving date, or a failed office inspection. Each produces a distinct search pattern.
Who is reliable?
Checking reviews, insurance and whether staff are vetted. Trust matters enormously when handing over keys.
What will it cost?
Looking for hourly rates or fixed prices. Firms that publish nothing lose to firms that quote instantly.
Get a quote
They request a quote or book online. Instant quoting converts far better than a callback promise.
What poor visibility costs a cleaning business
Cleaning has low individual job values and very high lifetime values. A recurring domestic client is worth thousands over a few years, and a commercial contract far more — which makes each missed enquiry expensive.
Not in the map pack
Local cleaning searches are decided in the top three map results. Below that, most customers never see your firm at all regardless of quality.
Winning one-offs, not contracts
End-of-tenancy work is easy to rank for and pays once. Recurring domestic and commercial contracts require different content and are where the real value sits.
No pricing or instant quote
Cleaning customers compare on price early. Firms with no published rates and no instant quote lose enquiries to competitors who answer the question immediately.
No trust signals
Customers hand over keys to their home or office. Without visible insurance, DBS checks and vetting, they default to whoever looks safest.
The cleaning queries that produce contracts
We weight toward recurring and commercial work, because lifetime value differs enormously between a weekly contract and a single end-of-tenancy clean.
| Search term | Intent | Volume | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|---|
| “cleaners near me” | Very high | Very high | Core map pack query. Reviews and profile completeness decide it. |
| “office cleaning [city]” | Very high | Medium | Commercial contract intent. High lifetime value, less competition. |
| “end of tenancy cleaning [area]” | Very high | High | Urgent, deadline-driven, converts fast but pays once. |
| “domestic cleaner [town]” | Very high | Medium | Recurring weekly work. The highest lifetime value per enquiry. |
| “commercial cleaning contract” | Very high | Low | Very high value, long term, consistently under-targeted. |
| “cleaning prices per hour” | High | High | Price research. Publishing rates captures them before competitors. |
| “deep clean service near me” | Very high | Medium | Higher-value one-off that frequently converts to recurring. |
| “carpet cleaning [area]” | Very high | Medium | Specialist service, good margin, often a separate service page. |
End-of-tenancy demand peaks around rental cycles and commercial enquiries cluster at financial year boundaries. We build the calendar around your local demand pattern.
Who is taking cleaning enquiries
Cleaning has a crowded marketplace layer plus low barriers to entry, so visibility and trust matter more than in most local trades.
Booking marketplaces
Bark, Checkatrade and cleaning-specific platforms rank above individual firms, then charge per lead or take a booking commission.
National franchises
Franchised cleaning brands with central marketing, consistent branding and profiles built properly across every territory.
Independent cleaners
Sole traders competing on price with minimal overheads, particularly strong in domestic recurring work.
The work that wins cleaning contracts
Local visibility to be found, trust signals to be chosen, and instant quoting so enquiries convert rather than waiting for a callback.
Google Business Profile
Correct service categories, complete service lists, real photography and managed Q&A — the biggest lever on local cleaning enquiries.
Service & area pages
Separate pages per service type and area, because domestic, commercial and end-of-tenancy customers search completely differently.
Instant quote system
Published rates and an instant online quote path, which converts far better than a callback promise in a price-sensitive category.
Trust & vetting signals
Insurance, DBS checks, staff vetting and guarantees presented prominently, since customers are handing over keys.
Recurring contract content
Content aimed at weekly and commercial contracts rather than one-off cleans, because lifetime value differs by orders of magnitude.
Review engine
Systematic review generation, which in a low-barrier category is the strongest differentiator available.
Your first 90 days
Local visibility and quoting first, then the content that shifts the mix toward recurring contracts.
A cleaning firm that shifted from one-offs to contracts
A domestic cleaning company ranked well for end-of-tenancy work but almost nothing else. That work paid once, was intensely price-competitive, and left the diary unpredictable month to month.
We built separate service pages for domestic recurring and commercial contract work, published rates with an instant quote tool, made insurance and staff vetting prominent, and targeted office cleaning queries nobody local was addressing.
We were busy but never secure — every month started from zero. The commercial contracts changed that completely, and they all came from searches we were not even visible for.
